Work, power and energy, introduction to friction, centre of gravity, equilibrium, the science of mechanics, composition of forces, resolution of forces, equilibrium of forces acting at a point. Moments and couples, centre of gravity of plane figures, centre of gravity of solids, equilibrium, definitions of single machines and levers. Mechanical advantage, velocity ration and efficiency, the mechanics of levers, compound levers, the pulley, wheel and axle, wheel trains, Weston's
differential pulley, definitions and practical cases, applications of the inclined plane. The wedge and screw, efficiency and power of screws, nature of friction, sliding friction, rolling friction.
